POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Medical Physics Department at the Walker Family Cancer Centre (WFCC) in St. Catharines is seeking a full-time permanent Physics Assistant. The department provides scientific and technical support for the Radiation Treatment Program, including: treatment and imaging equipment maintenance, performing and development of quality assurance tests, design and fabrication of specialized devices for therapy, dose measurement and calculation, radiation safety, and the development and implementation of new and improved radiation treatment techniques.

The successful applicant will join a team currently comprised of five physicists, one physics assistant, one biomedical technologist, and one Systems Administrator. Equipment at WFCC includes a Varian TrueBeam, a Varian Edge, and an Elekta Synergy linear accelerator. A current focus of the department is the installation and commissioning of a second Varian TrueBeam to enter clinical service in February 2027. The department also supports and operates a Canon Aquilion Exceed LB CT Simulator, C-Rad Catalyst and Sentinel Surface Guidance systems, and the RayStation Treatment Planning System (TPS).

The individual will be performing quality assurance tests on radiation therapy and physics equipment, and taking corrective action in consultation with a supervising physicist. They will also be responsible for maintaining comprehensive records of quality assurance tests, procedures and measurements, performing routine patient dosimetry during radiation therapy, and performing routine radiation protection tasks such as area surveys under the supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer. The incumbent will assist physicists and radiation therapists during radiation therapy procedures and performing other related duties, projects, and activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
o Honours BSc in Physics or equivalent combination of education and experience
o Experience in a medical physics environment an asset
o Demonstrated computer skills and ability to use spreadsheets, word processors, and databases
o Previous programming experience, specifically Python, is an asset
o Experience with mathematical software packages an asset
o Familiarity with 3D printing and CAD design is an asset
o Demonstrated mathematical proficiency and excellent analytic skills
o Good verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills
o Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
o Regular and consistent attendance required
