WAGE RANGE: $22.00 TO $24.891 PER HOUR


POSITION OBJECTIVE:
As part of the Ontario Health-Cancer Care Ontario Harold E. Johns Medical Physics Studentship Program, the Summer Student will report to the Head of Medical Physics at the Walker Family Cancer Centre. The student will gain exposure to the Medical Physics profession and undertake a supervisor-guided project; the candidate should be enthusiastic, motivated, and capable of independent and collaborative work, with duties including assisting in medical physics projects. The Undergraduate Studentship aims to immerse qualified undergraduates in radiation therapy, support a publication-worthy clinical project, provide quality assurance and clinic software/machine exposure.

PURPOSE: To promote interest in the field of radiotherapy medical physics.

ELIGIBILITY FOR STUDENTSHIP:
This position is open to undergraduates in physics or related disciplines in a recognized Canadian university program.
These studentships are awarded to students on the basis of academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.30, as calculated according to percentage to GPA conversion scheme of the applicant's university), and those who have demonstrated interest in the field of medical physics.

DURATION: Approximately four (4) months during the summer term (May - August).

WORK SCHEDULE: Flexibile working hours is be expected due to potential off hours acess to clinical equipment (e.g. during evenings or weekends).

COMPLETION REQUIREMENT: Studentship recipient must submit a written scientific report (up to five pages) at the end of their work placement, which outlines their studentship experience during the HEJ Studentship Program, including self-reflection.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Learn the operation of radiotherapy software and machines
o Work on clinical research & development projects supervised by medical physicists
o Assist with technical quality assurance on radiotherapy equipment
o Meet the requirements of the OH-CCO Harold Johns Studentship Program


QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current undergraduate university student in physics or related field
o Strong programming experience (such as Python, C, MatLab)
o Strong and effective problem solving and troubleshooting skills
o Self-directed with ability to organize and prioritize workload
o Superior communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
o Demonstrated ability to compile and analyze data; compile and write reports.
o Able to collaborate effectively with multiple internal and external teams and partners
o Applies NH values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
o Consistent and regular attendance required
