POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Health Informatics Specialist will play a critical role in the optimization of the Hospital Information System (HIS) within Niagara Health. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring the successful integration of workflows into the HIS, and supporting staff through the transition. The Specialist will be responsible for gathering requirements, translating them into system specifications, and assisting in system testing, training, and support. This role may include extended hours or on-call responsibilities during key phases of HIS implementation (e.g., Go-Live), system updates or emergencies
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
HIS Implementation and Optimization:
o Support the end-to-end implementation of the new HIS, ensuring it aligns with clinical and operational workflows
o Collaborate with clinical and technical teams to identify and document workflows, configurations requirements, and design decisions
o Participate in testing phases, including integration, functional, and user acceptance testing (UAT), to ensure system readiness
o Lead optimization activities based on user feedback, workflow analysis and evolving healthcare standards
o Assess proposed enhancements from clinical teams and translate them into system change requests or workflow improvements
o Collaborate with IT and teams to implement system upgrades, patches, and new features, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care
o Perform regular audits of the HIS to ensure data integrity, system efficiency, and compliance with healthcare regulations
Change Management:
o Champion change management activities that help users understand new workflows and system functionality
o Facilitate communication between clinical teams and IT regarding workflow improvements and change requests
o Develop clear communication materials and support documents to help staff adoption of new processes and workflows
Systems Integration and Optimization:
o Continuously analyze and evaluate the HIS to identify opportunities for system optimization and workflow improvements
o Work with leaders to gather feedback and implement changes that enhance user experience and patient outcomes
o Collaborate with IT and departments to ensure seamless integration between the HIS and other systems (e.g., EHR, lab systems, radiology systems)
o Support initiatives that enhance interoperability with external healthcare partners, ensuring the efficient sharing of patient data across systems
Data Management and Reporting:
o Support the development of reporting tools within the HIS to ensure teams have access to accurate and timely data
o Contribute to data migration activities validating requirements that migrated information aligns with workflow and reporting needs
Collaboration and Partner Engagement:
o Engage with clinical, IT, and operational partners to ensure alignment on HIS objectives, requirements, and timelines
o Liaise with external vendors and consultants to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure system stability
Quality and Compliance:
o Monitor and ensure the HIS complies with all relevant healthcare regulations, including data privacy laws and documentation standards
o Assist in quality improvement projects by leveraging HIS data to analyze outcomes and suggest process enhancements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
o Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Health Information Management, or a related field
o Certification in Health Informatics or related field is an asset
Experience:
o Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in informatics or health IT in a healthcare setting, preferably acute care
o Demonstrated experience with HIS implementation, including user training and support.
o Familiarity with Oracle health or other major HIS platforms an asset
Skills:
o Strong understanding of operational and clinical workflows in an acute care setting
o Ability to communicate effectively with clinical and non-clinical partners
o Proficiency in project management principles, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
o Analytical skills for assessing data, identifying trends, and implementing improvements
o Experience with change management and user adoption strategies in a healthcare setting

o Healthcare Expertise: Deep knowledge of hospital-based processes and how they integrate with technology
o Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
o Team Collaboration: Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally between IT, clinical, and operational teams
o Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, particularly during the Go-Live and post-implementation phases
