HOURS OF WORK: MINIMUM OF 8 HOURS PER WEEK REQUIRED

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Working to promote a positive patient experience, quality patient care and high professional standards, the Clinical Extern will be working with the Interdisciplinary Team in the capacity as an Unregulated Health Care Provider (UCP). They will work in collaboration with the healthcare team under the supervision of an appointed Regulated Healthcare Professional. Clinical Externs will have varying levels of knowledge, skills and judgement, based on their education level and past experience. Niagara Health is committed to providing an autonomous, supportive and supervised environment that fosters learning and professional development.

Clinical Externs will be provided the opportunity to learn and grow at Niagara Health while developing clinical skills, knowledge, and confidence as they transition into a registered role upon completion of their studies. This role requires a commitment of 8 hours per week and Externs will be provided a flexible but consistent and regular schedule.


QUALIFICATIONS:
o Completion of first year of a clinical program of study with evidence of continued enrollment
o Current CPR certification required
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care
o Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills
o Ability to accurately and effectively communicate and collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team
o Ability to provide basic assistive care under the supervision of regulated care providers
o Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing
o Evidence of successful learning experiences in recent clinical placements
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe practice
o Integrates reflection, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
o Mandatory compliance with NH onboarding and training requirements
o Consistent and regular attendance required
