We are seeking a Director, Surgical Services who will make a meaningful impact by playing a key leadership role in delivering the organization's strategic plan and advancing significant system transformation.

Your Role:
Reporting to the Executive Vice President Clinical Operations, the Director, Surgical Services provides strategic and professional leadership for the delivery of high quality, evidence-based surgical care using cost-effective and sustainable approaches. This regional role oversees surgical services across all Niagara Health sites and requires a proven change leader who partners with patients, families, frontline teams, physician leaders, and senior leadership to advance continuous quality improvement, innovation, and safe care delivery. The Director represents Niagara Health on external committees and collaborates with regional partners to meet and exceed Ontario's provincial standards.

Working in a dyad model with physician leadership, the Director drives effective operations and foster community and academic partnerships that improve access, integration, and transitions of care for patients and families.

We are seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented leader with a collaborative management style and more than 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience in large, complex healthcare environments. The successful candidate will lead by example, champion the organization's strategic priorities, and bring a proven track record of implementing innovative, sustainable initiatives. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:
o Provide shared leadership for surgical services through a dyad partnership with the Physician Chief of Surgery, fostering aligned clinical, operational, and strategic decision-making
o Support effective clinical governance structures that promote quality, safety, accountability, and engagement of staff and physicians
o Provide oversight and leadership for all surgical services across three primary sites, including operating rooms, perioperative services, PACU, and related programs; lead the development of a standardized yet flexible surgical services model that supports system integration while respecting site-specific needs
o Model collaborative leadership and shared accountability across medical, nursing, and interprofessional teams; provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for clinical and operational leaders within surgical services
o Lead effectively within a heavily unionized environment, ensuring compliance with collective agreements while supporting engagement, accountability, and positive labour relations
o Champion staff well-being, retention, professional development, and succession planning
o Provide strong fiscal oversight and stewardship for surgical services, ensuring effective and responsible use of resources; partner with operational and finance teams to manage budgets, staffing models, and resource allocation across sites
o Identify opportunities for efficiency, standardization, and sustainability while maintaining quality and patient safety; lead quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, outcomes, experience, and surgical efficiency
o Monitor, analyze, and act on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to access, throughput, utilization, and outcomes; optimize patient flow, access, and utilization across the surgical program
o Contribute to the achievement of Niagara Health's strategic plan by aligning the surgical programs strategic and operational plans with organizational priorities and population needs; prepare surgical services for Niagara Health's continued transformation, including the introduction of a new hospital site in 2028
o Ensure compliance with all legislative, regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

Qualifications:
o Master's degree in a health-related field
o Regulated healthcare professional (e.g., RN or allied health professional) with current registration in good standing, or an equivalent combination of education and leadership experience
o Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in acute care, with significant experience in surgical and/or perioperative services
o Demonstrated experience leading in a complex, multi-site and unionized healthcare environment with demonstrated knowledge of healthcare legislation, regulations
o Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional care with a focus on the patient experience
o Proven ability to work collaboratively with physician leaders
