JOB TITLE: PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER
VACANCY NUMBER: 42332

WAGE RANGE: $27.379 TO $32.171 PER HOUR
This posting is intended to collect applications from individuals interested in potential and future Personal Support Worker roles at Niagara Health. POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Personal Support Worker (PSW) supports patients by providing direct care and assistance with activities of daily living while contributing to the delivery of safe, high-quality care in the hospital setting. Working in collaboration with the healthcare team, the PSW promotes patient comfort, dignity, and safety, helping to ensure a positive patient experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
o Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker program from a recognized Ontario college or accredited institution that meets Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards
o One year recent experience as a PSW in a healthcare setting (hospital, long-term care, or community care); hospital or acute care experience preferred
o Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices, body mechanics, and safe patient handling techniques
o Current CPR
o Demonstrated ability to provide care for patients with multiple health challenges, mobility limitations, and cognitive changes
o Computer literacy with ability to document electronically in hospital information systems
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, judgment and decision-making skills
o Ability to work effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within an interprofessional healthcare team
o Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and sensitivity in providing patient care
o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize effectively, and maintain patient safety
o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
o Consistent and regular attendance required
