WAGE RANGE: $37.930 TO $54.370 PER HOUR
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centred care and high professional standards, the candidate will be responsible for patient education and teaching for the WFCC. They also will be involved in consultation, intervention and care planning with regard to Pain and Symptom Management and Supportive Care issues for outpatient oncology patients at any point in their illness/wellness trajectory. This role will work with the WFCC leadership team to implement Cancer Care Ontario initiatives as they relate to patient experience, symptom management and supportive care. This position will require the knowledge and skills of an expert Oncology Registered Nurse with training in Patient teaching and education, Pain and Symptom Management, and Supportive Care. Some evening work may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
o Current BCLS certification.
o Applies knowledge, skills and judgment to meet nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses.
o Minimum (3) years of clinical oncology nursing experience with expertise in Oncology and Supportive Care.
o Expert knowledge of Cancer Care Ontario's symptom management guidelines and patient education materials.
o Current CNA (Canadian Nursing Association) certification required in Oncology or willing to obtain within the next two years.
o If candidate does not have CNA certification yet, they must have completed DeSouza Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice course and have current Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course.
o Completed or enrolled in DeSouza patient teaching and education course or completion of an Adult Education certificate.
o Ability to lead and work collaboratively with the WFCC team in the implementation and sustaining of Cancer Care Ontario's patient experience and symptom management initiatives (Your symptoms Matter, Your Voice Matters).
o Ability to collaborate with the WFCC team and partners to create and present highly engaging patient education initiatives
o Demonstrated ability to search the literature to determine best practice as it relates to oncology symptom management and patient education.
o This role will involve both participating in and facilitating both internal and external committee work with WFCC staff, patients, families and community partners.
o Demonstrated ability to provide nursing leadership and exemplary/comprehensive clinical nursing care to meet program needs.
o Experience as a formal or informal nursing leader who takes the initiative to advance patient/family education and interprofessional team functioning to promote patient and family-centred care.
o Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, compassion and collaboration with patients, families and all internal and external service providers.
o Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn about other software/computer applications needed to carry out the role.
o Consistent and regular attendance, along with strong time management skills is required.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
