POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Driven by a commitment to enhance patient experience, patient safety and professional practice through the delivery of evidence based care, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to foster, facilitate, and achieve the highest standards of professional excellence for nursing and other clinical practice disciplines in relation to medication safety practices. Provide expert advice, clinical practice, and consultation in the areas of nursing, resource planning, system improvement, research, and professional development to support quality and safety initiatives. Anticipates future changes (e.g., needs related to technology, systems, professional development) and recommends and implements appropriate actions. Continuously evaluates nursing practice and contributes to the ongoing development of practice knowledge by evaluating research and developing frameworks and strategies to facilitate the implementation of best practices. As part of the Professional Practice portfolio, the CNS will report to the Clinical Leader, Professional Practice and will work collaboratively with the Nurse Educators, Clinical Leadership, patient facing nurses, pharmacists, and other interprofessional team members to develop and promote a best practice environment for medication safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
o Master's Degree in Nursing
o Clinical specialty organizational membership (e.g. RNAO, CVAA, CANO, INS, CAMSN and CPS)
o Minimum of 5 years of relevant acute care clinical experience, including expertise with vascular access (CVAD, ports, etc.)
o Ability to recognize potential and existing gaps in clinical care to influence client and organizational decision-making and change
o Demonstrated knowledge translation skills to implement evidence-based practices
o Demonstrated proficiency with program development and implementation, project and change management, and evaluation
o Demonstrated excellence in preceptorship, role modelling, mentorship and coaching of nurses, other members of the health-care team and students
o Demonstrated ability to lead change, prioritize, problem solve, work independently and as part of an inter-professional team
o Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
o Demonstrated commitment to vision, mission and values of Niagara Health
o Superior interpersonal and leadership skills including but not limited to; critical thinking, communication, responsiveness, conflict resolution, people management, change management, visionary thinking, organizational skills, effective customer service, decision-making skills and problem solving
o Consistent and regular attendance required
