WAGE RANGE: $36.253 TO $38.161 PER HOUR
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centred care and high professional standards, the Registered Practical Nurse will provide care through the therapeutic application of skills, knowledge, abilities and nursing standards, while collaborating with other CMHA team members. The objective of the Registered Practical Nurse is to provide safe and competent care through the application of nursing knowledge, the technical aspects of professional practice and the demonstration of compassion, professionalism and respect in a setting of treatment for concurrent disorders. Shift rotations are subject to change.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current Registered Practical Nurse registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
o Current BCLS certification
o One year experience working to the full scope of practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in a mental health unit
o Successful completion of the Addiction Care and Treatment Online Course through the University of British Columbia
o Current medication administration experience within the last two years
o Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment
o Demonstrated proficiency in the application of enhanced nursing skills within the last two years
o Current Safe Management Group (SMG) 1-2-3 certification /Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification or GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approach)
o Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act and all applicable legislation
o Demonstrated knowledge of Addictions and assessments
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations
o Must have good interpersonal skills sufficient to relate to clients with an attitude of compassion and understanding which is non-patronizing and that will encourage highly supportive individual relationships

o Must have knowledge of community agencies
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client-centred care
o Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a collaborative total client care model
o Demonstrated commitment to client and family education and the ability to promote health and wellness
o Evidence of accurate, timely and appropriate documentation according to best practice guidelines and College of Nurses of Ontario standards
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario
o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
o Consistent and regular attendance required
