HOURS OF WORK: 75 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD; MONDAY TO FRIDAY; MAY BE ASKED TO ALTER THE OCCASIONAL SHIFT

WAGE RANGE: $44.66 TO $56.30 PER HOUR
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Functioning as a team player, the Charge Technologist will support all staff in the provision of quality laboratory services to assist physicians and other health care providers in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Charge Technologist will supervise and ensure quality laboratory testing according to legislated requirements. The Charge Technologist will focus on continuous monitoring and improvement of practices in order to meet or exceed our patient/client needs and will support the mission, vision and values as determined by Niagara Health while providing safe and competent patient/client care. The Charge Technologist will support management decisions and activities to include but not limited to financial and operational needs, preparing statistics and reports, interpreting data and providing analysis. This Charge Technologist will have site operational responsibilities and will support the Manager(s), supervise staff, encourage staff development through leadership and ensure daily operational activities of the site are completed as per laboratory policies and ensure compliance with the NRLMP quality management system. The successful candidate must be available to work at any site of Niagara Health.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology Program
o Current registration as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with the College of Medical Laboratory technologists of Ontario with License to practice relevant specialties in Laboratory Medicine
o Minimum five (5) years recent supervisory experience in laboratory operations
o Completed BSC (or related degree) in laboratory related field
o Healthcare Management, Quality Management, and/or Leadership Program Certificate/Degree
o Advanced analytical skills and knowledge of equipment for processing of laboratory specimens
o Demonstrated evidence of commitment to advanced continuing education and professional development courses (certificate of completion required)
o Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to a crisis situation in a leadership capacity
o Knowledge of risk management policies and procedures
o Advance knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles and practices
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting professional standards as outlined by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario and related professional associations
o Applies NHS values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
o Working knowledge of computers, Laboratory Information Systems and other related Hospital systems
o Commitment to pursue certification as a Laboratory accreditation assessor
o In-depth knowledge and understanding of laboratory operations including inventory management and the ability to track trends and monitor inventory and supply use
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs and experience with statistical analysis, benchmarking and monitoring quality indicator
o Work independently using networking and resources effectively
o Evidence of effective organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, judgment, critical thinking, mentorship and decision-making skills
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Proficient in both written and verbal communication
o Excellent people skills and able to successfully cope with different personalities
o Skilled in conflict and change management
o Consistent and regular attendance required
o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
