Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Site Emergency Department and in collaboration with the Site Health Program Director, the NP-EC will work in a collaborative practice model with attending ER Physician(s) to assess, monitor, provide intervention and education and support to patients, care givers, family within the scope of regulatory practice as delineated by the College of Nurses of Ontario. The NP-EC in the Emergency Department will primarily attend to the needs of presenting CTAS 4 and CTAS 5 patients and will collaborate/consult with the ER physician when requested by the ER physician to attend to CTAS 3 patients presenting to the ER. In accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario, it is expected that the NP-EC in the ER setting will collaborate/consult the ER physician when the patient's presenting condition is beyond the scope of the incumbent relative to knowledge, skills and abilities. The NP-EC in the ER Department will, in collaboration with the ER physician(s), partner with the LTC-NP-EC to enhance/facilitate return to LTC of those clients where same is feasible with LTC-NP support. The successful candidate will provide Primary Care with an emphasis on wellness, health maintenance, and disease prevention within the context of the defined role in the Emergency Department, through direct patient care, health promotion and education, outreach, advocacy and community development.
