POSITION OBJECTIVE: As a member of the patient care team, the Ward Clerk works under the direction of the Clinical Manager or delegate and fulfills a variety of functions including clerical, reception, registration, public relations, and bookings.
QUALIFICATIONS: o Graduate of a Medical Office Administration Program or Medical Terminology Certificate and equivalent in related experience o Working experience transcribing and/or understanding/utilizing medical terminology o One year related clerical experience in a high volume, fast paced department within a health care/clinical setting o One year experience with computer software including Kronos, Microsoft Office programs, with data entry experience o Accurate keyboarding skills with a minimum of 50 w.p.m. o Experience in order entry/Meditech o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care o Excellent communication skills and ability to respect the confidentially of personnel and patient information o Compliance with confidential requirements under the Niagara Health Privacy Policy o Demonstrated professional attitude while interacting with the public, patients, employees and medical staff o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays o Travel between sites when required o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset o Consistent and regular attendance required
