WAGE RANGE: $51.40 TO $59.16 PER HOUR
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Manager of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), the Senior Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with the mission, vision and goals of Infection Prevention and Control program for Niagara Health.
As part of the functional team oversight, the Senior ICP provides:
o Day-to-day operational support to the Manager of IPAC
o Guidance and expertise to NH programs and staff, assisting with priority setting, problem solving, and responding to concerns
o Formalized mentoring of ICP staff and development of training material as required
o Assist in the design and development of IPAC programs in collaboration with NH leadership, Manager of IPAC, ICP staff
o Critical team decision making including structure, scheduling, and on-call distribution
o Leadership for critical organizational priorities, such as New Build or implementation of New products and services such as HIS
o Coordination and collation of IPAC high priority projects and programs and assist in future planning of IPAC operational plans
o Review and maintain IPAC programs with up to date IPAC best practices, including standardization of IPAC teams practices
o Continuously review and engage quality improvement projects within the IPAC team and see through until adoption
o Act as a key driver for the IPAC department to improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness
o Provides regular updates to IPAC Manager on Site and IPAC activities
o Provide monthly report to clinical managers on infection rates, hand hygiene compliance and IPAC education and best practice updates
o Support and provide back up surveillance and outbreak activities to ICPs
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Minimum Health Sciences Degree
o Health Sciences Masters or PhD considered an asset
o Minimum 5 year experience in Infection Prevention and Control in an Acute Care setting and or minimum 7-10 years in healthcare at a leadership level
o CIC Certified from Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC)
o Expert understanding of IPAC processes including pathogenic investigation, infection surveillance, outbreak management, IPAC policies and procedures, and best practices
o Excellent communication skills providing adherence to best practices and education across the healthcare continuum
o Working knowledge of microbiology, infectious diseases, epidemiology, facility design/construction/renovation (CSA standards - certification considered an asset), cleaning and disinfection, medical device reprocessing (certifications considered an asset), occupational health and safety, adult education principles, and hospital Accreditation ROPs and IPAC requirements
o Proficient to expert use of computer applications (word, excel, power point, statistical software), and other healthcare technologies and databases
o Able to work independently requiring minimal supervision, shows initiative and self-directed while possessing the ability to work in a respectful collaborative manner
o Consistent and regular attendance required
o Flexibility to work between the hours of 7am to 5pm on a daily basis, and work from multiple sites as required with no set WFH schedule
o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
