NEW LOCATION: 264 WELLAND AVENUE, ST CATHARINES
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD
POSTING DATE: 26 NOVEMBER 2024

UNION: SERVICE EMPLOYEE'S INTERNATIONAL UNION-SERVICE
WAGE RANGE: $27.682 to $28.814 per hour
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services, the successful candidate will provide physical and emotional support and guidance to clients in active withdrawal or crisis as a result of substance use issues. Shift rotations are subject to change.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Social Service Worker diploma from an accredited community college or relative equivalent (Community Services Worker, Addiction Counselling); or a university degree in a relevant social science (Social Work, Psychology or Sociology)
o Current Certificate in C.P.R. and First Aid
o Must have good interpersonal skills sufficient to relate to clients with an attitude of compassion and understanding which is non-patronizing and that will encourage clients to talk, to build highly supportive individual relationships with clients quickly
o Must have good client assessment skills sufficient to monitor withdrawal symptoms for variances, assess the clients' stage of readiness for change
o Must have excellent listening and observation skills sufficient to be able to accurately summarize and report client's behavior and interactions to co-workers and Supervisor
o Knowledge of the principles, theories and practice of substance abuse and the recovery from substance abuse as well as knowledge of the lifestyle of people who have experienced addiction problems, including in-depth knowledge of illegal and illicit drug use and their ramifications
o Must have knowledge of Community Agencies and facilities available for the treatment of chemically dependent persons
o Must have the ability to provide personal care to residents while in active Detoxification stage, and work in a stressful environment with rapidly changing demands
o Must uphold the Standards of Care in Addiction Services and the values of Niagara Health
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills
o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
o Consistent and regular attendance required
