WAGE RANGE: $30.510 TO $35.170 PER HOUR
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
As an integral member of the Walker Family Cancer Centre team, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible and accountable for the technical aspects of drug access and distribution within the overall medication use process in accordance with professional standards and hospital policies. This may include, packaging and unpackaging products, billing and reconciliation, narcotic and controlled drug management and inventory control, managing patient medication profiles, all aspects of drug procurement and inventory management. The Pharmacy Technician in oncology will also be responsible for preforming other specialty functions including but not limited to providing support to patients with applications for compassionate supply of medication as well as accessing specialty funding for medications as well as clinical trial record keeping and procurement ensuring good communication regarding drug supplies, medication management and financial reimbursement to the Oncology team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support the safety of the medication distribution process; the Medication Reconciliation process through the accurate gathering and documentation of a patient Best Possible Medication History (BPMH). The position will be responsible for reporting to and working with the WFCC Clinical Manager to ensure policies and procedures are upheld, are reviewed annually and improvements are implemented.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Community College diploma from a recognized Pharmacy Technician Program required
o Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
o Recent working knowledge (within the last 6 months) in pharmacy automation use and maintenance
o Recent working knowledge (within last 6 months) in Meditech Pharmacy module required
o Experience in chemotherapy preparation an asset
o Adequate knowledge of regulations governing Hospital Pharmacy practice
o Experience and trained in, BPMH gathering and documentation or obtained within the first 3 months of role
o Demonstrated ability to use the Microsoft® Office suite of products efficiently.
o Ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy
o Demonstrated analytical thinking skills
o Demonstrated organizational and time management skills needed to handle diversified and changing workload
o Demonstrated leadership qualities including goal setting and service awareness
o Demonstrated ability to adapt well to progressive change
o Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication (verbal and written),interview, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
o Demonstrated commitment to professional development
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
o Consistent and regular attendance required
