WAGE RANGE: $28.984 PER HOUR
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
As an integral member of the Pharmacy Department and patient care team, the Pharmacy Technician Intern is responsible and accountable for supporting a safe, efficient, and effective drug distribution system within the overall medication use process in accordance with professional standards and hospital policies. This may include, but is not limited to, first medication doses, unit dose medication cart fills, packaging medications, medication refill lists, medication credits, collaborating with the Pharmacists and registered pharmacy Technicians, answering medication distribution questions/phone calls, delivering medications to the patient care units, liaising with nursing staff, medication delivery to patient care units, restocking automated dispensing cabinets, and maintaining the medication barcoding process. As a Pharmacy Technician Intern, you will support the Medication Distribution process within the scope of your position, under the guidance of a Registered Pharmacy Technician. Shift times and assigned rotations are subject to change.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Graduate of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician program
o Pending registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Registration and its related requirements must be completed within one year of hiring
o Practical experience, within the last 2 years, through a program-associated hospital pharmacy educational rotation
o Adequate knowledge of regulations governing Hospital Pharmacy practice
o Ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy
o Demonstrated ability to use the Microsoft® Office suite of products efficiently
o Demonstrated aptitude for working with automation and its related system applications
o Demonstrated analytical thinking skills
o Demonstrated organizational and time management skills needed to handle diversified and changing workload
o Demonstrated ability to adapt well to progressive change
o Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication (verbal and written), teamwork, and problem-solving skills
o Demonstrated commitment to the requirements and expectations of the profession
o Demonstrated ability to set and achieve professional development goals
o Consistent attendance and punctuality required
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
o Full vaccination in accordance with Niagara Health's Vaccination Policy
