HOURS OF WORK: 75 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD

WAGE RANGE: $36.230 to $51.800
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centered care and high professional standards, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Clinical Manager and Nurse Educator in implementation and evaluation of clinical education (includes orientation) in the Perioperative Program. This includes working alongside staff to provide support and mentorship in the Perioperative Program at the St. Catharines Site. Reporting to the OR Clinical Manager, the Clinical Resource Nurse will work collaboratively with the OR Clinical Educator and OR Clinical Manager to achieve educational goals and objectives for the Perioperative Program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario
o Current Certification in BCLS
o Member of Operative Room Nurses Association Canada
o Recent clinical experience in the related clinical area in the last 3-5 years
o Current knowledge of best practice applications as they relate to the OR
o Supportive of program goals and objectives, demonstrating initiative to promote continuous quality improvement
o Acts as a resource for Patient Care by communicating with OR Staff and Clinical Manager during the tour of duty within the service
o Develop and maintain service manuals for the entire specialty
o Liaison with SPD to ensure needed equipment and instruments are available according to preference cards
o Ensure standards around flashing of equipment are strictly adhered to
o Functions as a working member of the surgical team (i.e. scrubs, circulates, etc.)
o Checks the blood, x-rays, drugs and special equipment are available in the OR and when not available, will make arrangements to have items brought to the unit
o Supervises the noting of Doctor's Orders and implementation of the same within the service.
o Previous experience in a healthcare leadership role preferred by involvement with key strategic initiatives of Niagara Health
o Superior leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork and organizational skills
o Strong computer skills in all Microsoft applications an asset
o Supportive of organizational and departmental goals and objectives, demonstrating initiative to promote continuous quality improvement
o Demonstrated commitment to providing quality customer service while dealing with the public (patients, staff and families), as well as various medical and non-medical professionals.
o Experiene as PEER preferred
o Acts as a liaison and facilitator between Medical Staff, OR Personnel, OR Educator and Clinical Manager
o Works in collaboration with OR Buyer for equipment trial in the OR
o Weekly ordering as needed (paying special attention to proper stocking and inventory management)
o Monitors and maintains the budget for the specific service, equipment and supplies with in the approved policy and guidelines
o Ensures information and literature are available on all equipment for staff to review and learn
o Demonstrated ability to develop an integrated plan of care. o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations.
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving.
o Consistent and regular attendance required
o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset.
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
