POSITION OBJECTIVE:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Communications Specialist to advance this work and more broadly contribute to the successful delivery of Niagara Health's strategic priorities. This is a permanent, full-time position.

As a key member of our Corporate Communications Department, the successful candidate will lead the communications agenda in the areas of transformation, partnership, and new models of care. The Senior Communications Specialist will work with our dedicated team of Communications professionals to mobilize integrated communications campaigns that exceed the needs of our internal and external stakeholders and enhance our service to the community.

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Senior Communications Specialist will have significant experience leading the development, implementation and management of complex communications strategies that are creative, engaging and measurable. To be successful in this role, the Senior Communications Specialist will bring a demonstrated commitment to incorporating best practices and the latest research in public relations into their work.

Supporting our growing focus on transformation, partnership and new models of care will require the incumbent to be adept at all aspects of strategic communications, including planning, relationship building, stakeholder and community relations/engagement, media relations, social media strategy and issues management. The Senior Communications Specialist's exceptional writing, editing, speech writing and presentation skills, and ability to shape compelling content, will also be key factors in success.

This position will require occasional emergency on-call communications leadership and support.

QUALIFICATIONS:
o Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field. Member of Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) or International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) considered an asset.
o Minimum five years in a senior communications role within a large healthcare or unionized environment, preferably with a focus on technology, and/or change management
o At least five years of experience developing and implementing measurable and engaging communications strategies for internal and external stakeholders, including strategies that support change processes and stakeholder engagement
o Proven ability advising senior leaders on communications matters
o Demonstrated expertise managing complex communications issues, leading projects and planning special events
o Demonstrated expertise tracking and reporting on meaningful metrics
o Advanced writing, editing, speech writing and presentation skills, and a natural talent for translating complex information into clear and compelling communication materials
o Excellent critical thinking and problem management skills
o Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills, and the ability to work in a respectful, co-operative team setting
o Self-starter possessing the ability to work independently in a high-profile, time-sensitive environment and deal with competing priorities
o Service focused

o Consistent and regular attendance required.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset.
