POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Executive Vice-President Clinical Operations, the Director, Medicine, Access and Flow will be a transformational leader to the Medicine programs and build and foster a culture that focuses on patient care, innovation, and results. They will be accountable for building and designing the framework of real time operational management across the organization and beyond for optimal patient flow. The successful individual will be an experienced change agent who will work closely and collaboratively with patients, families, all levels of management, staff and external stakeholders to support optimal flow across the entire organization with the achievement of targeted outcomes and the effective and efficient use of resources within the hospital.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to the NH mission, vision, and values; and will act as a resource to the medical staff, administrative staff, and external regulatory agencies in all issues relating to management of these programs. The Director is in this role will be responsible for building a sustainable patient flow model using a continuous quality improvement framework to foster the timely and efficient transfer of patients across the organization and beyond. This person will manage and lead a team accountable for organizational patient flow, and enable effective coordination and communication between all team members to develop care transition plans and facilitate patient placement. They will work closely with the Regional Chief of Medicine to implement the delivery of high quality care to our patients. Leading the strategic planning of quality improvement initiatives in the medicine program will be a priority area of focus in this role.
The Director must have exceptional leadership and negotiation skills to foster strong relationships and engage key stakeholders to deliver the right care, at the right time, in the right place, , ensuring ease in accessing key services. Core competencies for this role include experience in leading change, developing strategy & tactics to improve, implementing standard operating procedures, innovative use of technology, influence, and a passion for quality patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Masters Degree in a related profession (MHA, MBA, MScN)
o Membership in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or a college recognized under the Regulated Professionals Act
o Clinical experience with advanced training and experience related to patient flow and data analysis/management
o Advanced training in Patient Flow, Health Care Improvement, Project Management and Change Management an asset
o Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in a hospital setting
o Experience in leading large scale change initiatives with demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects to meet aggressive timelines
o Experience in leveraging data to inform decision-making and innovative practices
o Ability to influence outcomes without formal authority
o Ability to apply Performance improvement philosophy, principles, and technology
o Ability to operationalize hospital goals into specific nursing and patient care processes, programs, and clinical practice guidelines (e.g. standards, pathways, policies, and procedures and protocol)
o Knowledge and experience in the implementation and adherence to relevant professional practice standards and requirements in legislation and provincial policy such as ECFAA, QCIPA
o Proven team leadership and experience in strategic planning, capacity planning and health care transformations
o Demonstrated ability to approach issues and challenges in an innovative and creative manner
o Excellent patient, family, staff and team engagement skills and service excellence
o Strong critical and analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
o Excellent facilitation, training and presentation skills
o Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal
