POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Niagara Health is looking for an experienced Communications professional with experience supporting technology-enabled initiatives in a healthcare setting to join our high-performing Corporate Communications Department. This is a temporary full-time position for seven-months.
Niagara Health is leading the way in designing and developing technology solutions to make it easier and more convenient for patients to access digital health services. We were the first in Ontario to introduce the Niagara Health Navigator and the Ontario trusted account, a patient digital identity service, to patients, which together helps patients discover, navigate, and access healthcare services and information. This position will lead communications planning and execution in support of the growth of this Program as well as the adoption of these digital assets across the West Region of Ontario. The successful candidate will work in partnership with patients, clinicians, health service provider organizations, government, and health technology companies.
The successful candidate will develop project-specific communications to advance these digital health initiatives at Niagara Health. They will be a collaborative team player and a creative thinker. The Communications Specialist will work with our dedicated team of Communications professionals and project leads to mobilize integrated communications campaigns, working closely with regional and provincial partners to enhance our service to the community.
The position reports to the Manager of Communications and will develop, implement and manage project-specific communications for internal and external audiences that are creative, engaging, comprehensive, and measurable. To be successful in this role, the Communications Specialist will bring a demonstrated commitment to incorporating best practices and the latest research in public relations into their work.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Communications planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation for the Program
o Build and maintain strong relationships with multiple partners
o Coordinate communications calendar and approval protocols to achieve deliverables
o Write and edit materials such as news releases, internal communications, social and digital media, and more to educate and inspire target audiences to use new innovative healthcare services and technology
o Liaise with local, national and industry media and national media
o Update and post web content; produce and post social media content; photography; desktop publishing and design
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism
o 5+ years of relevant experience in a communications role. Experience in a healthcare environment and/or technology sector preferred
o Accredited in Public Relations (APR) with Canadian Public Relations Society or Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) designation from International Association of Business Communicators an asset
o Highly motivated to successfully carry out a number of important responsibilities in a complex, fast-paced environment
o Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload while meeting tight deadlines
o Expertise with media relations, social and digital media, including in an emergency management environment
o Advanced writing, editing, speech writing and presentation skills with a natural talent for translating complex information into clear and compelling communication materials
o Experience developing and sustaining effective working relationships with multiple internal and external parties, including senior leaders, clinical and operational program leaders and staff, members of the media, government officials and community partners
o Experience developing and implementing measurable and engaging communications strategies for internal and external parties, including strategies that support change processes and engagement
o Strong computer skills including desktop publishing (ex. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator), PowerPoint, social media platforms, Sharepoint , Internet
o Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills, and the ability to work in a respectful, cooperative team setting
o Evidence of effective organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment, critical thinking, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Desire to learn and grow
o Commitment to our organizational values
o Consistent and regular attendance required
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
