POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Advanced Practice Radiation Therapist (APRT)/Clinical Specialist Radiation Therapist (CSRT) is a highly competent academic and clinical member of the department of radiation medicine who demonstrates leadership and advanced knowledge, skills and judgment in the clinical and technical aspects of the care of patients with metastatic cancer.
The APRT/CSRT is a self-regulated professional who works toward and attains autonomous practice in the triaging, assessing, prescribing, planning and management coordination of a defined group of patients referred to Walker Family Cancer Centre (WFCC) at Niagara Health for radiation treatment. They will integrate research, theory and practical knowledge to exercise sound judgment within a variety of socio-cultural and organizational contexts, to bring a unique and significant contribution to the delivery of timely, patient-centered care of patients at the WFCC.
The APRT/CSRT will collaborate with radiation therapists and be a key member of the multidisciplinary team of oncologists, physicists, nurses, dietitians and social workers to optimize care of patients and to promote research, education and other strategic goals of the program. They will be supported to provide a pivotal and unique role in the patient journey beginning with initial referral, coordination of care, and after care. As such, their accountability and responsibility will include clinical and technical practice, quality, education, research, innovation and leadership activities. The APRT/CSRT also performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or required by the program. To support the identification and development of personal learning goals, a mentorship program will be provided and on-going professional development. Following successful recruitment, an individualized career and learning plan would be initiated and supported through the first year and reviewed on an annual (or other appropriate interval) basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Completion of a Master's degree or recognized equivalent preferred
o Graduate of accredited radiation therapy training program with Advanced Certification preferred
o 5 years practical experience preferred
o Previous experience and expertise in patient assessment an asset
o Knowledgeable of performance measurement including the development of indicators and benchmarking
o Ability to document procedures and write reports
o Ability to effectively lead a team
o Current Registration with CMRITO
o Current CPR Certification
o Current CAMRT membership
o Expert clinical skills to perform responsibilities of role
o Advanced knowledge of oncology, physics, and radiobiology
o Regular and consistent attendance
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
