LOCATION: ST. CATHARINES SITE
HOURS OF WORK: 75 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD
POSTING DATE: 10 January 2022
CLOSING DATE: 31 January 2022
UNION: NON UNION
WAGE RANGE: $17.00 per hour
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Health Care Assistant will be a member of the health care team providing direct patient care and working under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Registered Nursing Assistant (RN/RPN). The Health Care Assistant will be assigned and/or buddied with a RN/RPN on every shift.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Health Care Assistant must have successfully completed his/her second year and be enrolled in the upcoming year in a recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program.
Direct Patient Care (with appropriate supervision):
o Providing or assisting with personal hygiene care (including bathing, dressing, shaving and shampooing hair)
o Providing for assisting with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting and ambulating as per hospital back care program
o Providing measures to ensure protection of skin integrity
o Providing ongoing comfort measures to the patient including bed making
o Assisting with patient safety and comfort by ensuring environment is tidy, clean and safe from hazards
o Assisting with or providing oral nutritional intake
o Assisting with elimination
o Practices all patient care procedures in keeping with Infection Control Policies and using universal precautions
o Participates as a team member
Communication:
o Provides ongoing support for the patient and family ( all social supports) using effective communication skills
o Responsible for ongoing communication of patient status with RN/RPN
o Documents nursing care (activities of daily living) on the flow sheet
o Participates in the completion of relevant reports/forms as required by hospital policy
(i.e incident report)
o Functions as a member of the health care team and develops good working relationships/partnerships with other departments within the hospital.
