POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centered care and high professional standards, the Registered Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, nursing diagnosis, integrated care plan development, implementation and evaluation of nursing care. The objective of the Registered Nurse is to provide safe and competent care through the application of nursing knowledge, the technical aspects of professional practice and the demonstration of compassion, professionalism and respect. The incumbent will perform all other relevant duties assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the unit to which s/he is assigned. In the event there are no qualified applicants, this posting may be used as a training opportunity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
o A minimum of two years related clinical experience in the past six years in acute care mental health.
o Current BCLS certification.
o Current Safe Management Group and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification specific to Mental Health Nursing.
o Demonstrated group facilitation skills.
o Training in appropriate use of restraints and current best practices in least restraint policy.
o Proficient in conducting comprehensive mental health assessments including mental status examination, suicide risk assessment, violence risk assessment and knowledgeable in the development of crisis and discharge planning.
o Enhanced knowledge of the Resident Assessment Instrument tool and the TIDAL Model of Care.
o Preference will be given to candidates who have obtained the Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification.
o Holistic assessment skills and demonstrated ability to develop an integrated plan of care on an individual basis.
o Knowledge, understanding and ability to incorporate Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and Core Competencies for Psychiatric Nursing into practice.
o Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act and all applicable legislation including the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations.
o Commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving.
o Demonstrated commitment to professional development, on-going education and integration of research into clinical practice.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
