WAGE RANGE: $40.954 TO $46.336 per hour
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety, the consultant will be responsible for: Maintaining the current Safe Patient Handling Program for all clinical staff of Niagara Health. The primary responsibilities are:
1) Train and support employees, managers, and supervisors to ensure safe and consistent patient handling practices. The consultant is responsible for education in areas such as, but not limited to, mobility assessments and communication of status, general patient handling guidelines, lifting, transferring and repositioning of patients.
2) Assist with the development of return to work plans, working in collaboration with the Employee Health and Abilities consultants, frontline staff and union partners. Complete Physical Demands Analysis and Cognitive Demands Analysis
3) Conduct Ergonomic Assessments for clinical and non-clinical staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario or Member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO)
o Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or related field
o Previous experience in a health care setting
o Must have thorough knowledge of biomechanics in regard to patient handling tasks
o Experience working with the geriatric and bariatric populations are an asset
o Must be able to perform the physical requirements to demonstrate and assist in patient handling
o Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment, critical thinking, innovative problem solving, educator and possess decision-making skills
o Ability to work effectively within an inter-disciplinary team and independently
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle
