POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Senior Quality & Patient Safety Specialist (QPSS) is a senior role within the Quality and Safety area that has strategic focus and supporting the strategic plan to advance corporate quality improvement initiatives. Reporting to the Manager, Quality and Patient Safety the successful candidate will function as the senior lead in the development of a culture of safety and performance excellence for the Niagara Health. Duties will include but not be limited to serving as an internal facilitator for strategic committees, planning the coordination of Quality and Patient Safety Specialist activities, identify relevant quality and patient safety related training needs, analysis of patient safety incident trends, capacity building, and mentorship, and co-development of the areas annual work plan in conjunction with the manager. This role will also strategically groom Quality Advisors to advance their skills, identify work to advance the QPSS imperatives, create and update policies and procedures in accordance with best practice and patient safety improvements.
The role will also need to have strong partnership and understanding of the Patient Partners and Engagement portfolio, and ability to support QPSS's in patient partnership and engagement as a strategic priority.
As a member of the Quality, Patient Safety & Risk Management, Patient Relations team, the successful candidate will provide support to the Manager and Director as well as participate in the departmental on-call schedule and work outside regular hospital business hours as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Master's degree required (in a health related discipline, Business or Industrial Engineering preferred).
o Two years as a Quality and Patient Safety Specialist with key experience in strategic imperatives, large QI initiatives.
o Advanced analytical skills, ability to manage larger data sets and thematic analysis.
o Previous experience in managing teams and providing leadership, mentorship, decision-making skills and having emotional intelligence.
o Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, ability to provide constructive feedback, and excellent team skills.
o Improvement Advisor certification through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), certification in Lean and/or related quality improvement methodology (eg. Six Sigma). Project Management certificate an asset.
o Demonstrated knowledge and experience with chart audits, performance measurement, data reporting and analysis.
o Expertise in, Quality Improvement tools (eg. process mapping/flow diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, pareto charts, creativity methods, affinity diagrams, force field analysis, tree diagram, FMEA, etc.) and the IHI Model for Improvement.
o Knowledge of patient safety, risk management principles and strategies.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel , Access and other statistical programs
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
