POSITION OBJECTIVE:
We are looking for an experienced Communications leader to join our Corporate Communications Department. The successful candidate will be a key member of our dedicated and passionate team of professionals, partnering with us to build an extraordinary Niagara Health for our patients and families, and for our staff, physicians and volunteers.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Manager will oversee the Department’s overall planning, development, implementation and evaluation of communications activities in support of Niagara Health’s strategic priorities and the Department’s Annual Work Plan. The ideal candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker, will have significant experience in all areas of strategic communications, and will possess a demonstrated knowledge of best practices and the latest research in public relations. The Manager will provide communications leadership and advice across the organization. In leading our team of Communications professionals, the Manager will collaborate, inspire, engage and empower personal and professional growth for all members of the team.
The position will have responsibility for internal and external communications, media relations, social media and digital communications, publications, issues and emergency management, speech writing, special events and other initiatives. The incumbent will be driven by analytics and the ability to measure the effectiveness of the Department’s work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field. Master’s degree and/or professional accreditation preferred (APR or ABC)
o Minimum five years of progressive communications leadership experience in a large healthcare or unionized environment
o At least five years of experience developing and implementing measurable and engaging communications strategies for internal and external stakeholders, including strategies that support change processes
o Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders and managers on communications matters
o Demonstrated experience managing complex communications issues, leading projects and planning special events
o Demonstrated experience with media relations, social and digital media
o Advanced writing and editing skills and a natural talent for translating complex information into clear and compelling communication materials
o Strong project management skills
o Strong proficiency with computer programs such as Internet, Email, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) required. Experience with graphic design and/or desktop publishing
o Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills, and the ability to work in a respectful, cooperative team environment
o Effective time management, organization skills; service focused, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment
o Commitment to ongoing professional development
o Evidence of satisfactory attendance record
