POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Switchboard/Resource Centre the successful candidate will carry out all activities associated with the functioning of the Niagara Health System's combined switchboard/resource centre operation. This includes responding to incoming and outbound calls for all Hospital Sites using Cisco IP phone and Arc Solutions software. The Switchboard/Resource Centre Operator handles a high volume of telephone inquiries, paging and making announcements using the hospital intercom system, transferring calls to appropriate telephone extensions and contacting on call personnel for call back duty. Processing requests for housekeeping, maintenance and biomedical for the NHS using Vision FM and QFM software and Connexall. The department is also responsible for documenting all sick and absent calls for the NHS and scheduling and shift replacement as required. The Switchboard/Resource Centre Operator is also responsible for performing specific duties when Emergency Procedures are in effect within the Niagara Health System.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Post-Secondary Diploma or recognized equivalent program, (Emergency Responders Course, Business Administration Program).
o Two years recent Switchboard/Resource Centre or Dispatching experience including staff scheduling and helpdesk service experience.
o Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
o Demonstrated working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Outlook, ISIS Pro and Meditech Systems.
o Experience in operating office equipment such as: cell phone, photocopier, fax, printer, multiple line telephones & headset.
o Accurate keyboarding skills with a minimum of 45 w.p.m.
o Must have the manual dexterity required for handling equipment and supplies.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care.
o Compliance with confidential requirements under the Niagara Health System Privacy Policy.
o Demonstrated professional and informative attitude while interacting with the public, patients, employees and medical staff while working in a fast paced, intense environment while remaining calm.
o Physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position such as multitasking, keyboarding and working in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
