Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Patient Experience and Integrated Care, the Director, Quality, Risk & Patient Safety will provide leadership, direction, management and evaluation of all functions related to Quality, Risk Management and Patient Safety, responsible for leading and developing a culture that strengthens quality improvement, innovation, and performance outcomes. Redefining 'quality' as the core business strategy is a key role, and the Director will champion and implement strategies to further build continuous quality improvement capacity across the organization aligned with Niagara Health's strategic plan, developing and aligning systems and structures to support organizational needs. In addition, the Director will lead the advancement of NH's enterprise risk management program, inclusive of the legal portfolio and emergency management planning.
RESPONSIBLITIES:
o Provides direct leadership to advance a strong internal culture of quality, risk management and patient safety across Niagara Health
o Ensures that the quality and patient safety reporting frameworks are integrated into the management reporting system and regular trend reporting and analysis is maintained
o Identifies, manages, and mitigates risks related to patient safety incidents. Ensures that quality of care reviews are conducted and recommendations are implemented for critical patient care events
o Oversees provincial and local quality framework/programs including the annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) with appropriate engagement of interested and affected parties
o Develops and oversees innovative quality and patient safety structures, processes and initiatives that meet and exceed national best practices
o Provides direct leadership for the Accreditation Process and supports best practices for accreditation
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Master's Degree in Business or Health Administration
o Current registration with a health professional regulatory body or Baccalaureate in Health
o A minimum 5 years' related experience in a leadership position in the health system
o Recent clinical experience in an acute care setting and in a formal quality and patient safety setting
o Certification in Lean and/or related quality improvement methodology (i.e. Six Sigma)
o Project Management and Risk Management certificate an asset
o Knowledge and understanding of hospitals and particularly quality and performance improvement
o Experience with patient safety, and risk management in an integrated healthcare delivery system
o Superior interpersonal and leadership skills and abilities.
o Strong, well developed business management skills (strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation
o and analytics).
o Ability to identify bold solutions to complex problems and is able to capitalize upon new ideas, tools and technology.
o Demonstrates leadership in executing plans in partnership with various stakeholders.
o Superior analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
o Proven leadership and team building skills
o Demonstrated commitment to continuing education in healthcare or business
