WAGE RANGE: $25.779 TO $29.167 per hour
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Critical Care Research Assistant will provide non-technical assistance, organization and administrative support to research projects, clinical research studies and investigator initiated or industry sponsored trial, to further the science of critical care medicine, and improve patient care and outcomes. The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of the Co-Directors, Critical Care Research and the Research Office. The Research Assistant will work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the intensive care unit with physicians, pharmacists, RNs, RTs, PTs, RDs, other bedside staff, and patients and families.
Under clear direction, and guidance, typical duties may include: collect, record, process and enter data into databases, assisting with screening study participants, assist in the consent and recruitment of study participants, perform interview of study patients and transcription of recorded interviews, and perform literature searches as applicable. Interact with numerous departments throughout the hospital, interact with various stakeholders, such as research team members and study participants, schedule appointments for research studies, including research team meetings, perform general office duties, may assist with research publications, may assist with tracking budgets and expenditures, and assist with other duties as needed, and as they arise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Graduate of community college or relevant experience
o Demonstrate knowledge of medical and scientific terminology
o Experience in research, with knowledge of research procedures and regulations an asset.
o Experience in health care environment, especially in critical care an asset.
o Enthusiasm for advancing science in the practice of critical care medicine.
o Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to new situations.
o Proven ability of ensuring confidentiality of information.
o Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload often with rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
o Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, especially in interactions with patients and substitute decision makers.
o Excellent written communication, proofreading and editing skills.
o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
o Superior organizational and problem solving skills.
o Flexible, self-directed and able to prioritize and work effectively and independently.
o Consistent and regular attendance required, with a flexible schedule an asset.
o Working knowledge of all Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Access)
o Ability to manage databases related to research projects.
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
