WAGE RANGE: 34.77 to 48.20
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Occupational Therapist uses a systematic evidence-based approach and professional reasoning to enable individuals, groups and communities to develop the means and opportunities to identify, engage in and improve their function in the daily life tasks that individuals need and want to do. The occupational therapy process involves assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of the client related to occupational performance in self-care, work, study, volunteerism and leisure. Occupational Therapy services will be provided in a collaborative and inter-professional clinical team environment that reflects recovery/client-centred care principles and values.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelors' Degree in Occupational Therapy.
o Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) in good standing is required.
o A minimum of three years related clinical experience in a mental health setting.
o Current AMPS (Assessment of Motor and Process Skills) certification required; must be willing to obtain within 5 years.
o Current BCLS certification.
o Current SMG (Safe Management Group) or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
o Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
o Working knowledge of major mental illnesses and main classifications of psychotropic medications.
o Demonstrated ability to complete comprehensive functional assessments including the evaluation of risk, mental status, and level of functioning for individuals with mental health issues.
o Proven ability to utilize occupational therapy best practices and research evidence in meeting the needs of individuals with mental health issues.
o Working knowledge of formal and informal community services and resources within Niagara Region.
o Knowledge of and an ability to apply principles of client-centred care and recovery in all aspects of occupational therapy role
o Demonstrated group facilitation skills.
o Excellent interpersonal skills and communication (written & verbal) skills.
o Ability to diffuse conflict and foster collaborative working relationships.
o Able to work both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
o Excellent organizational skills.
o Adaptable, creative, innovative, and flexible.
o Willingness and ability to continue to improve professional competence and knowledge.
o Working knowledge of computers.
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to client care and service.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
