POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Niagara Health is looking for an experienced Communications professional to join our high-performing Corporate Communications Department. This is a permanent full-time position.
The successful candidate will be a key member of our dedicated and passionate team of professionals, partnering with us to build an extraordinary Niagara Health for our patients and families, and for our staff, physicians and volunteers.
The ideal candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker. Primarily focused on internal communications, you will be responsible for developing high-quality strategic communication plans to support our dedicated staff and physicians, drive engagement, align teams and promote our organizational culture centred on our CORE values. You will accomplish this through a variety of channels and strategies, including providing direct support to organizational leaders. Your advanced writing and editing skills and natural talent for translating complex information into clear and compelling communication materials are key to success in this role.
As someone with a well-rounded skillset, you are comfortable working with the media and have experience with social and digital media, desktop publishing, emergency management, and event planning. You will have a demonstrated knowledge of best practices and the latest research in public relations.
The position reports to the Manager of Communications and will have regular opportunities to provide leadership of the day-to-day activities of the Corporate Communications Department.
AMONG PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Developing and implementing measurable and engaging communications plans for strategic objectives and other organizational priorities
o Ensure internal messages are communicated across the organization in a clear, timely and effective manner, using an engaging writing style and format
o Write, edit and produce leadership communications for internal audiences including presentations, scripts, briefing documents, articles, and employee communications, messages and emails
o Review and edit communications drafted by internal stakeholders and make recommendations to ensure messaging is consistent with internal strategy and tone
o Writing and editing for publications, flyers, posters and other marketing and advertising materials
o Identifying media opportunities, preparing news releases and liaising with members of the media
o Special event planning
o Providing emergency management communications leadership and support
o Assisting with: updating and posting web content; posting to social media; photography; desktop publishing and design
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism
o 5+ years of relevant experience in a communications role. Experience in a healthcare environment preferred
o Accredited in Public Relations (APR) with Canadian Public Relations Society or Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) designation from International Association of Business Communicators an asset
o Highly motivated to successfully carry out a number of important responsibilities in a complex, fast-paced environment
o Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload while meeting tight deadlines
o Strong computer skills including desktop publishing (ex. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator), PowerPoint, social media platforms, Sharepoint 2016, Internet
o Experience developing and sustaining effective working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, clinical and operational program leaders and staff, members of the media, government officials and community partners
o Evidence of effective organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment, critical thinking, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Ability to work well in a team environment
