POSITION OBJECTIVE:
This position performs all duties necessary to promote efficient operation of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department to meet the needs of internal/external customers in providing quality patient care. MDR. duties include the cleaning, disinfection, assembly, pick-up and delivery, visual inspection, functionality testing, and Sterilization of all re-usable medical/surgical instrumentation/equipment, while maintaining all required infection control practices. Compliance with Quality Indicators and Standards for Sterilization and Reprocessing is an expectation. Shift rotations are subject to change as the OR has approximately 6 weeks of slow down per year, which varies year to year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Grade 12 education or equivalent
o Must be certified in a post-secondary Medical Device Reprocessing/Sterilization program
o Certification must be current and valid
o Previous experience working in a Medical Device Reprocessing Department, within last two years
o Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterilization and infection control procedures
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
o Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving.
o Knowledge of and experience in using proper body mechanics to meet the physical demands of this position for constant walking, prolonged standing, frequent bending, lifting, pushing/pulling carts as well as intense visual concentration for instrument processing
o Ability to work with cleaning agents and germicides and wear personal protective attire
o Demonstrated ability to handle a large and diversified workload with often rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills
o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team where customer service is a top priority
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
o Consistent and regular attendance required
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
