JOB TITLE: PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER
STATUS: TEMPORARY REGULAR PART-TIME
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

HOURS OF WORK: APPROXIMATELY 30 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD, 10 HOUR SHIFTS

WAGE RANGE: $22.528 TO $23.698
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse the Personal Support Worker functions as a team member assisting the patients in the Regional Critical Care Program to meet their basic physical, social, and emotional needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring supplies and equipment for the Intensive Care Unit are ordered, recorded and monitored. Shift rotations are subject to change.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
o Successful completion of the Certified Personal Support Worker Program
o Two years of acute patient care experience as a Personal Support Worker in a hospital setting within the past five years
o Current CPR
o Knowledge and experience using proper body mechanics for a one-person transport by wheelchair or stretcher
o Demonstrated understanding of proper body mechanics when pushing, pulling, lifting and transferring patients
o Working knowledge of stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, oxygen and suctioning equipment
o Knowledge and experience in Central Supply procedures
o Knowledge of inventory control, including process for ordering and stocking depleted supplies
o Collaborate with nursing staff for all daily requests for equipment
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care
o Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team
o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
o Consistent and regular attendance required
