POSITION OBJECTIVE:
This leadership position is responsible/accountable to assist the ED Clinical Manager, ED Staff and Physicians in directing, organizing and coordinating patient care within the Emergency Department to promote excellence, quality patient/client care, patient flow, communication, patient/staff safety and advocacy. Performance in this role is congruent with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice, ER Program Standards and policies/procedures of the Niagara Health System. The Charge Nurse will demonstrate and provide a positive leadership perspective, promote optimal allocation/utilization of resources, act as a resource to nursing colleagues in the provision of safe and therapeutic patient centered care, work with staff to ensure standards of care are met through role modeling and consultation, promote and maintain excellent inter/intradepartmental communications, execution of positive intervention strategies, participate in strategies to enhance standardization of policies, procedures and processes between sites. The Charge Nurse will also possess the skills, competencies and knowledge to assume patient care at any level in the ED. The successful candidate's home site will be the St.Catharines Hospital Site and must be willing to work at two or more sites.
QUALIFICATIONS:
0 Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
0 BScN preferred.
0 Minimum five (5) years related clinical experience of which, at least two (2) years must be in an Emergency Department or Urgent Care Centre.
0 Current ACLS certification.
0 PALS, TNCC and ENPC certification preferred.
0 Current in Triage and ER Standards of Care.
0 Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale training.
0 Excellent organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
0 Demonstrated knowledge of CNO Standards of Practice.
0 Demonstrated ability to integrate model of Interprofessional Collaboration in a ER setting.
0 Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of ED Nurse specific competencies and roles.
0 Demonstrated initiative to participate in Continuing Education, Program Activities, Committees, Inservices.
0 Demonstrated leadership skills (leadership courses an asset).
0 Demonstrated team approach, excellent customer services skills and professional demeanor with internal and external partners.
0 Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to a crisis situation in a leadership capacity.
0 Demonstrated ability to embrace and promote change in a positive manner.
0 Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
0 Knowledge of patient safety management (ie; physicial restraints procedures and protocols).
0 Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations.
0 Working knowledge of computers.
