POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the incumbent works as part of the Engineering Services team to operate and maintain hospital building systems for Niagara Health, in optimal, safe working order in accordance with the Ontario regulations, CSA standards, building, fire codes and other related legislated requirements. Duties may include installation and repair of flooring, door repair and installation of door hardware, general repair of hospital equipment but not limited to patient beds, stretchers and walkers. Preventive maintenance duties will be performed as required. The successful candidate will also assist with skilled trades to complete tasks. The incumbent will be required to contribute to continuous Quality Improvement and Service Excellence, and will conform to all safety policies and procedures. The successful candidate will interact via work supplied phone, verbal and written work requests, with all departments, contractors and internal customers. The incumbent will demonstrate a strong commitment to the NH's mission, vision, and values.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Grade 12 education or equivalent
o Community College Certificate in Facility Maintenance
o Management of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems
o Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and calculate material and equipment requirements
o Knowledge and experience using proper body mechanics to meet the physical requirements for the job including heavy lifting, bending, prolonged positioning, standing, walking, ladder climbing and overhead work
o Working knowledge of legislated safety requirements, codes and standards and regulations
o Working knowledge of computer software applications including building automation and computerized maintenance management system experience an asset
o Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for inter-site travel
o May be assigned work at other NH sites
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), leadership, judgment, critical thinking, troubleshooting and decision-making skills
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision within a multi-disciplinary team
o Must be available for all shifts including weekends, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
o Consistent and regular attendance required
