POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Sexual Assault Domestic Violence Program is a Regional Program located at the St. Catharines Site which offers acute medical treatment, follow-up medical appointments and counselling services to those who have experienced either a sexual assault or are victims of domestic violence. The nursing role provides on-site and on-call services to ensure coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position also serves as a liaison with external agencies. In addition to providing the necessary clinical services, this position is responsible ensuring compliance with Provincial Standards and working with the clinical manager towards program evaluation and development. The incumbent will perform all other relevant duties assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the unit to which s/he is assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
o Minimum one year experience in the area of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence
o Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training required.
o Previous experience in program planning and evaluation is essential.
o Knowledge and experience in relevant legislation as it pertains to the field, collection of evidence, and support of medico-legal issues related to Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence.
o Demonstrated skill and experience in physical assessment.
o Experience in providing psychological support and crisis intervention to victims/survivors of sexual assault/domestic violence.
o Knowledge of the issues relating to domestic violence.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient and family education and the ability to promote health and wellness
o Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe, independent and inter-disciplinary practice by meeting nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and related professional associations
o Evidence of accurate, timely and appropriate documentation according to best practice guidelines and CNO standards
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
o Demonstrated report writing skills.
o Good interpersonal, communication, decision making and problem solving skills.
o Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
o Advanced computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft applications, familiarity with the Meditech system an asset.
o Demonstrated commitment to continuing education.
o Consistent and regular attendance required
