POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services - Outpatient Mental Health and Addiction Services, the primary role of the Hepatitis C Registered Nurse will be the provision of general medical care and the treatment and management of Hepatitis C disease processes in patients of the Clinic. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for collaborative practice within a health care team and will also provide liaison, case management, and case consultation services. The Registered Nurse will act as a professional resource to a diverse, interdisciplinary team. The successful candidate's home site will be the Port Colborne General Site however the candidate must be willing to travel to the satellite sites encompassing the program
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing.
o Minimum of three years recent experience in community nursing working with marginalized populations such as addictions, mental health, concurrent disorders, homeless or street drug users required.
o Venipuncture certification required.
o Demonstrated competence in use of Fibroscan equipment.
o Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
o Current SMG (Safe Management Group) or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training required.
o Experience with and knowledge of addictions including community resources, crisis intervention strategies and acceptance of harm reduction treatment modalities required.
o Knowledge of infectious diseases, specifically Hepatitis C and its treatment and management required.
o Working understanding of best practice guidelines and relevant clinical studies involving present, future and evolving theories of Hepatitis C required.
o Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Regulated Health Professions Act and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
o Demonstrated knowledge of College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the CNO.
o Demonstrated commitment to professional development, ongoing education and integration of research into clinical practice.
o Demonstrated ability to provide effective clinical consultation.
o Demonstrated ability to be self-directed in clinical practice as required in the areas of assessment, diagnosis and therapeutics.
o Demonstrated leadership in a team environment and ability to encourage innovation and creativity amongst team members required.
o Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and critical thinking skills.
o Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners required.
o Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral/written communication skills.
o Applies NH values, professional practice standards, recovery/client-centred philosophy to patient care and service.
o Demonstrated leadership skill in providing, facilitation and promoting excellent customer service and quality patient care.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient and family education and the ability to promote health and wellness.
o Computer literacy is required.
o Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet patient population needs.
o Must maintain valid Ontario driver's license and have access to reliable transportation.
o Proficiency in French would be an asset.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
