POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Reporting to the Facilities Site Supervisor, the incumbent works as part of the Engineering Services team to operate and maintain hospital HVAC and building systems for Niagara Health, in optimal, safe working order in accordance with the Operating Engineers Act, CSA Standards, Building and Fire Codes and related legislated requirements. Duties include the operation and maintenance of: a high-pressure gas/oil fired steam plant, hot water boilers, diesel generators, chillers, compressors, refrigeration units, pumps, HVAC controls and system components, appliances and other equipment throughout the sites. Performs preventative maintenance tasks and other general maintenance duties as required. The successful candidate will work closely with the building automation and computerized maintenance management systems. The incumbent will be required to contribute to continuous quality improvement and Service Excellence, and will conform to all safety policies and procedures. The successful candidate will interact via pager, phone, verbal and written work orders, with all department levels, contractors and internal customers. Able to perform a variety of building repair and maintenance assignments as required. This position may include assignments or relocation to other sites within Niagara Health. Shift rotations are subject to change. Candidates must be able to demonstrate effective leadership, coaching and delegation skills in this position. This position is primarily a day shift position but shift rotation and weekend coverage may be required based on the needs of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Minimum grade 12 or equivalent
o Ontario Certificate of Qualification - Stationary Engineer Fourth Class (minimum)
o 5 Years' experience in HVAC and building systems, preferably in a unionized hospital environment
o Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, maintain and service HVAC equipment in conjunction with building automation systems
o Experience and training in building automation systems such as Optimira, Siemens, Honeywell and Johnson
o Demonstrated ability to accurately estimate and calculate material and equipment requirements
o Knowledge and experience using proper body mechanics to meet the physical requirements for the job including heavy lifting, bending, prolonged positioning, standing, walking, ladder climbing and overhead work
o Working knowledge of legislated safety requirements, codes, standards and regulations
o Working knowledge of computer software applications
o Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for inter-site travel
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, judgment, critical thinking, trouble shooting and decision-making skills
o Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Consistent and regular attendance required
